Eating Disorder Treatment Therapist
Celeste Wellin (she/her/hers) is aLicensed Social Worker (LSW) with Birch Tree Psychotherapy. With a focus on Eating Disorder Treatment, she conducts therapy with clients in our Chicago Loop office and via telementalhealth (Illinois Residents only). In addition, Celeste is a psychodynanamically-trained, integrationist who works from a Health at Every Size (HAES®), strengths-based framework. Celeste provides outpatient individual therapy services to adults for eating disorder recovery/disordered eating, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, and trauma.
Education and Training
Celeste Wellin has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology (Macalester College) and Master’s in Social Work, with a focus on clinical mental health (University of Illinois Chicago). With a generalist background that qualifies her to treat a range of concerns; Celeste has focused her training on eating disorder treatment. She has been working in the eating disorder field since 2017.
Celeste has several years of experience in direct client treatment services—spanning residential, PHP, IOP, and outpatient settings—and extensive experience working with clients experiencing a variety of mental health concerns. She completed undergraduate internships at University of Minnesota-Center for Eating Disorder Research and Children’s Hospital-Center for the Treatment of Eating Disorders. After completing her undergraduate degree, Celeste worked in direct clinical care for three years at The Emily Program (a residential eating disorder facility).
Celeste continued to work in higher levels of care throughout her MSW program at the University of Illinois at Chicago, including roles at the Eating Recovery Center and as a live-in eating disorder recovery coach at Koplin Consulting. Though Celeste primary identifies as a psychodynamic therapist, she is also trained to integrate behavioral interventions, such as: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Now, a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in Illinois, Celeste is pursuing independent clinical licensure. She provides individual therapy at Birch Tree Psychotherapy to adults living with eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma under the supervision of Dr. Catharine Devlin and Barrie Isaac.
Current Clinical Interests
While Celeste works with a variety of clinical issues, she offers a specialized expertise in eating disorder recovery treatment. With a humorous, warm demeanor, Celeste loves building connection with her clients and their support teams. She implements a strengths-based, person-centered approach in her outpatient eating disorder recovery work. Celeste values her work with the LGBTQ+ community and providing a safe, affirming space for clients to explore their identities and experiences. She embraces a Health At Every Size (HAES®) approach. Within a person-centered, psychodynamic framework, Celeste integrates Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention Therapy (ERP), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). Celeste is committed to providing client-centered, trauma-informed care rooted in cultural humility. She values a collaborative therapeutic relationship and works alongside clients and their support teams to help them work toward recovery.
