Education and Training

Grace Moloney earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work and Psychology from the University of Kansas. She obtained her Master’s in Social Work, with a focus on clinical mental health, from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.

During her studies, Grace trained across various levels of care. She completed her undergraduate internship by providing mental health services at a Title I elementary school in Kansas, focusing on supporting children and families. At the University of Illinois, she contributed to a grant project aimed at delivering community-based mental health services to youth.

Grace completed her graduate internship at Ascend Consultation in Healthcare, a Chicago treatment facility specializing in eating disorders. Following her internship, she continued as a staff therapist, delivering comprehensive care to adolescents and adults struggling with eating disorders, mood disorders, trauma, and anxiety. Her therapeutic training at Ascend emphasized individual, family, and group interventions using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).

Now, a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in Illinois, Grace is actively pursuing clinical licensure. She provides individual therapy at Birch Tree Psychotherapy to adolescents and adults dealing with eating disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma under the supervision of Dr. Catharine Devlin and Barrie Isaac.

Current Clinical Interests

Grace is passionate about guiding young adults, teens, and families on their paths to recovery from eating disorders. Additionally, she seeks to help clients achieve freedom from anxiety and trauma. She embraces a Health At Every Size (HAES®) approach. Moreover, she leverages a strengths-based framework. This creates a therapeutic space that is both holistic and client-led. Grace is dedicated to supporting clients as they journey toward healing, self-acceptance, and intuitive eating.

By integrating client-centered and behavioral techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Radically Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Grace helps clients explore the underlying issues contributing to their challenges. Together, Grace and her clients work to foster a more positive relationship with themselves and others.

On a personal note

In her free time, Grace enjoys yoga, crafts, and trying out new recipes. A Chicago-area native, she loves exploring the city’s neighborhoods and discovering new coffee shops!
